Blue Tang

My wife ordered a Regal on the 9th (A2564001). They were on sale and she has been wanting one. Order shipped and arrived in usual DFS manner; quick ship and great packing. Because of the high quality fish we have received in the past from Liveaquaria, she decided to forego quarantine. Shame on me for not researching the Regals magnetism for ich. It started to scratch almost immediately and within two days had a small pimple near it's tail. We noticed the other side had a patch that was discolored. Not white spots but maybe rubbing in the middle of it's body. Now the pimple is gone but both sides look rubbed up high between the gills and tail. I am just waiting for that pimple to hatch into ich. We tried to catch the fish on that second day to quarantine but it is spooky and hides when a net enters. Other than that, it is fine. I have been feeding selcon soaked mysis and seaweed, and formula one. It eats until its belly is round and every one is getting along great. I will take a pic if needed. What else should I be doing at this point? Thanks for the great service, fair prices, and quality livestock. You have made this somewhat temperamental hobby more enjoyable for our family.

Jim,

Thank you for contacting us with your questions. Ich is always present in any aquarium, and will lay dormant until it has a chance to come out. Tangs are notorious for getting ich and most times it is not too hard on them. We recommend soaking the food in Garlic Juice, which will help boost, the fishes immune system and also lower the stress on the fish. Keeping an eye on the fish to make sure it continues to eat will help the ich cycle get over soon. The spots on the body are one of the last stages in the cycle. Also making sure the Tang has plenty of veggies to eat will help as well.

We hope this information is helpful. Tangs can be prone to ich but they make a beautiful addition to aquariums, and are beautiful to watch. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact us.
