blue throat questions

I added a blue throat trigger to my fish only tank and have a couple of questions, when I put him in the tank he darted behind the rocks for the first 2 days then last night he came out for a little bit and back to the rocks he want. Today he came out for a little bit all day, always going back to the rock and hiding, he seems to be swimming in only half the tank and goes back to hidding. is this normal? I have a lion, puffer and blue face angel and a zebra eel ( who still has not eaten ) all the water checks out fine and all the other fish are doing great.

I thought triggers moved around a lot I feel like I only have 3 fish in the tank...... the eel does not come out at all and now the trigger has taken up hidding as well.

very normal for a bluejaw to hide for the first week or two. he will come around sooner or later. has it eaten for you yet?

To be honest I am not really sure if he has eaten, I put some pellets in for the angel and I saw him move a little bit but cant say he eat or not.. I have tried everything to get the eel to eat with no luck :(

So he will swim around a lot more as time goes on.. This is my first fish only tank and the eel and trigger had me worried, My 180 reef will be up and running within a couple of weeks cant wait for that, but to be honest the fish only tank is pretty cool as long as the eels stops knocking rocks down

Try feeding him some PE mysis soaked with selcon or garlic. Triggers of all shapes and sizes will go crazy for this mixture.

Give the blue throat some live clam on the half-shell and once they start eating they won't stop. Mine ate everything from pellets to flakes. It's normal for them to hide between rocks but they will come around swimming all over in no time.

Here's the male back in February

Thanks for the info, will try that tomorrow night. I think it is one cool fish and cant wait to see it more lol,

I have a Blue Jaw and it is real skidish, even afraid of its own shadow, I think I just got a retarded fish.

I was thinking the same thing, mine just hides all day i am waiting and hoping to see more of him. When I picked him out he was hidding also up by the over flow but i was told that triggers do that from time to time.

In this hobby you can't rush things just hang in there. Trigs will come out in due time. I remember how skidish my Powder Blue Tang was and after a couple of months the daxx fish will kill every new addition.

it will eat eventually when it feels more bold, like my blue jaw its about 7inches didnt eat for the first week then after it started eating like crazy and always out.

Sometimes frozen brine, worms can kick kickstart a fish's appetite. I don't normally feed brine, but my six-bar angel refused to eat for 1wk. After feeding just 1 cube of brine shrimp, he started gobbling pellets, flakes, and everything else I drop into the tank.

My Pinktail has been pretty shy the first two weeks...She has eaten since day one. Mysis shrimp really get them going and soaking them in garlic is a good idea.
This is the third week for me with the pinktail and she is out and about a lot now, but still will reside in her designated hiding spot.
