Blue tipped acro - becoming white....

Hi
I have a Blue tipped Acro...

It has about 7 heads on it, but one of them has started to turn white from the end, and the white is now about 1cm down also... This has happened overnight...

I've checked water params, and all seems ok.

Can anyone advise?? What can I do? Why has it happened??

Thanks

I posted your pic for you. If that has happened overnight, it looks to be RTN. Cut off the dying tip in an area of living tissue (below the white). I've never experienced RTN, but others might chime in as to how else to help. Good luck!

It looks like it could be a nutrient issue. Do you have a pic of the whole tank?

Can you give us more details on your setup?

Yes - this was a post I made.

My PH has now dropped to around 8.5 - 8.6.

It didn't seem to have any affect on any livestock at the time, but this acro appeared like this, this morning.
I have noticed some 'red type' very light algae on the tips of the acro a couple of days ago, but thought nothing of it.
Do you think this could be linked??
Could the algae have been cyno??

Does this change the diagnosis, or what I can do in order to try to save this specimen??

Thanks

I saw this post of yours..

This could very well have something to do with it.

You can "burn" corals with a high dKH sometimes. This could be the cause if it was spiked up fast. What is your dKH reading now?

This has just triggered a thought......

I actually used some Joes Juice to zap a big Aiptasia which was next to this acro, yesterday..... I wonder if I burned the Acro with part of it??

Is this possible??

Going to do another water params check in a sec. Will post back...

I think you need to check your water parameters. Thats a lot of algae growth on the glass on and the rock seems to be a bit covered too.

All checked... all OK.

Phos 0
Nitrate 10
Nitrite 0
dKH 13
Ca 480
Mg 1350

Anyone??

You have algae, the reason your getting 0 readings is because of the algae uses it up beofrea test kit can get to it. (something like that ;))

I remember one of the smart people telling me that from the tips down is usually alk or lighting.

OK - Thanks for that.

Next questions....
- What can I do about the algae? (there isn't much, but granted, there is some)

- What can I do about the acro?? Will it die?? How can I try to save it?

Thanks

The algae is usually a nutrient export issue. Water changes, skimming, etc. etc.

You can frag the acro below the white tip. Cut into healthy tissue. Keep the piece you cut off and glue it to a rock or something, it could grow back. Not likely, but possible.

I agree with the nutrient issue... Acros need prestine clean water and tank.. from the looks of it, seems like there is a abundance of algae in on the rock and sediment.. also that ph is a bit to high. Not saying your tank is dirty or horrible, but for acro's they are crazy hard to take care of and algae must defintely not be present. Do you run carbon? If not I would run it 24/7 as i do. also what skimmer and filtration are you using?
