blue tipped sabea anemone

A) is there a such thing?

B) is it the same as a normal seabe- care/size ect.

The reason I ask is mine was bought and looks to be bleached out (which its getting its yellowish color back now) with bright blue tips. So upon research it looks like bleached seabes have purple or pink tips. I saw a website selling the "blue tipped sabe" . so does anyone have healthy pics of a blue tipped seabe? also how long have you owned it and what do you do to take care of it! thanks!

looks like every other bleached sebae... and that looks purple to me

Do you have a further away shot? That picture makes it seem like it is almost upside down, and that its foot isn't planted.

And yes it is bleached, with proper light and care there is a good chance of it regaining its zoax. But, will be honest, most of them in that condition don't make it.

However, if it does make it, you will need a bigger tank, they get huge.

ok - a better pic

I notice a major color change from when I bought him a month or so ago- from pure white to yellow... but I hear they are supposed to be brown? Also on a normal sebea- do the coror tips go away?
in person the tips are bright blue- not purple. I can tell when the yellow tail comes near. I just want to save him- as the LFS was killing him... then I can sell him or trade him

Has the sebae dug into the sand? Hopefully it's natural color will come back soon. What type of lights do you have?

yes its dug in now... the red sea max comes with 2 55w t-5 bulbs...

Good that it has dug in. I'm not familiar with the depth of that tank, not sure if that's enough light, but hopefully it will be. The fact it's darkening up suggests it is enough light.

so does anyone have healthy pics of theirs? I would like to know still if there are 2 varieties... normal and blue tipped or not? I really dont want opinions- but facts. I have found an online store selling a blue tipped variety- I would like to know if they are scammers or not. it is priced alot more than a normal sebea...

I think the tips appear blue because the tentacles are contracted, making the color appear darker. Of course there are variations among individuals. Here is mine, I have had it for a lttle over 6 years.

They lengthened within a few months of adding it to the tank. Does yours take food?

yep... seems to like to eat. I catch marine grass shrimp around the bay here and also I feed him frozen mysis shrimp. He eats both. Poops alot too. I will start to feed silversides 2x week or so here soon.

Great to hear that yours is eating

Calfo and Borneman have both advised against feeding large foods like silversides. However I did do that with whole silversides and krill for at least 3 years, and never saw any ill effects from doing so. I do not feed like that any more, I just let it catch small fragments of my frozen mix when feeding the tank. Sometimes I will give it a shot directly from the turkey baster, but truthfully I do not see any change in the animal with either method of feeding, other than it does not noticeably poop anymore. It may be and probably is, but I haven't seen it do so in a while.

PS- mine looked very similar to yours when I got it, and has survived being shredded in half by a powerhead.

I think alot of these animals are tougher than ppl think. They do have to have some correct parameters and food(most of the time)... BUT I evacuated my tank with a bucket and battery air pump for 2 hours and then moved them into a 10g aquarium for 3 weeks while we cleaned up from hurricane IKE. They had a hang on pump filter which broke twice and they went without movement for hours, then my dad let a towel suck up almost all the water where almost all the animals were dry for an hour+ while he mixed saltwater and poured it in... then they survived the 2 hour trip back home in a bucket... everything survived that I had at the time. Pretty amazing.

My uncle ( who has a red sea max for about 3 years) has alot of small nems that are splitting in his tank and he has never spot fed anything in his tank... hes got coral, shroms, nems, and on... he says its survival of the fittest... but he never loses anything either so...

in my experience the sebaes often keep the stubby tentacles unless they are hosting something
