Blue Tort/Green pigmentation

I wanna know if anybody has came across any info or knows what is the most common or significant reason why some blue torts like California and Oregon have a lot of green pigmentation in some tanks and more dark blue in others?

I keep thinking small levels of nitrate, just because of what Nitrate does to grass.(turns it green)

I have also herd potassium is a factor in this. I dont know were potassium comes from really in the ocean. i thought i came from banana's. And if you have any kind of potassium on your skin while your fishing and you touch your bait you will NEVER catch fish, fish hate it.

thanks for the info

I experience green coloration between coralites in the low light areas. I have had the same coloration on the regular ORA Blue, Cali, Oregon, and Bennett's. I think it is from lower light IME

I think size of the coral also plays a role. IME smaller frags/colonies have more green.

Example: I cut a solid blue branch off my OT. It developed a green base to it in a few days. Same light, same flow.

I have a grasp on this for sure, i know the blue torts are top of the tank dwellers. Bennett's tort is one i have been looking for a while. know any good shippers for a frag?

I agree with you on this, size is a major factor. I call it old growth. I guess i hadn't though much about that being that the colonys i got mine from were perfect deep dark blue and cut that day and brought home about 1 year ago now. and like you said shortly after getting them home they gained alot of green. i keep thinking maybe a deficiency/abundance of something but maybe more time is all they need.

sometimes you just need somebody to steer you mind off what ever path it seems to be stuck on thanks guys
