I just bought this guy but haven't received it yet. I have never seen a blue Trachyphyllia. Do you guys think this color is real? If so, do you think it will shift to something else? I hope it stays this way. I really like it.

It was an ebay auction and the pics were even more brilliant. I asked for another pic and this is what he sent me. I did a google image search for blue Trachyphyllia and didn't see any that were close.

I'm not asking if you see blue. If you don't see blue, you should check your monitor or your eyes. I have shown a few people in person and they all recognize the blue on this coral. I really don't know how a bunch of reefers can't see powder blue. Back to my topic....for those that can actually identify blue, do you think it will keep it?

To help my case for it being blue, look at the skeleton on the Acan that was obviously recently cut. Look at the right part of the light diffuser (egg crate). THOSE are white. I agree that the center of the coral is white but that's not what I'm talking about.

There is a minor hint of teal, but that's it. I personally wouldn't call it blue (and yes my monitor is calibrated ;) ). It's been a very very common morph for a long time, they're just seen less recently due to the aussie craze over the last few years. I had one that was roughly a 10-12" across inflated.

Those green with blue (ish) ones aren't too uncommon, the thing with that one though is that the vendor put it under way too much light and it's burned pretty good. Between that and the flesh damage on the lower left hand side I'd be really surprised if it survives longer than a month...

I can't say that I agree. I was in the coral business for many many years and I never saw one with blue. I've been to every wholesaler in California (OK well most) and I must have seen close to 10,000 Trachs by now. Never with the blue. Don't know how that could be considered very very common.

Yeah I was a little worried about that too so I asked them to extend the guarantee more than normal. They agreed. I hope it makes it. Have you ever seen this morph in captivity for an extended period of time? I was trying to avoid posting the original pic because it's obviously under heavy blue lighting but I decided to anyway

This is what sold me though. Stupid impulse purchases.

I haven't seen that one after it's been in captivity for a while but my guess is they'd stay the same. They're fairly common out of Indo these days thanks to better collection stations out there now. When I worked at an importer we'd see about 3 or so a week, but I think before 2009ish they were pretty scarce. Good thing they stretched their guarantee, hopefully it makes it. When are you getting it in?

On a side note I think I traded some micros with you like 5 years ago :D
