Hi all. I am fairly new to zoanthids. I have some in my 29g softie tank and they are spreading like wildfire. I will have to frag them sometime soon. In the meantime I picked up this blue zoanthid at the LFS. I will post a more clear pic in a couple of days. Is this really a hard to find zoanthid or are they just yanking my chain. I would have bought it anyway. I will probably go back in a few days and pick up some other bright colors they had in the frag tank.

Here is the pic.

Got lucky. Only frag in the store. This is the first one they have had in 6 months. I will post another pic once it opens up a little. Believe it or not, they said this particular one came from around the Philippines - i believe. Apparently they only dive for them a couple of times a year because of the toxicity of the water. Probably hogwash, but that is what they said.

blue zoos are not as easy to come by as say green zoos, but not all blues are necessarliy *rare* . some blues are quite common.
I do not believe what your lfs told you about diving only once a year.. hes BS'ing you there..

Not true man, I see new colonies come in at my lfs every week. As a matter of fact I picked up 3 colonies on sunday myself. :D

The toxicity of the water? Diver is probably more toxic to the local flora/fauna than the water. LOL The Phillipines do have more toxic run off from business, etc because they haven't passed EPA type laws like ours, but as far as I have heard, it hasn't gotten THAT bad. More likely, they don't find them but a few times a year maybe. Who knows.

I really picked them up because they are unique. I learned a long time ago that sales tricks come in many flavors. As I said probably hogwash.
