Blueline Angel and packed reef tank

I am wondering if blueline angel will destroy this tank:

Please either talk me into it or talk me out of it lol.

There's a 50/50 chance, some Angels never mess with corals while others with eat anything and everything they can stuff their face with. It really depends on the individual personality of the fish, some will tell you that you don't have a chance and others will tell you that there's nothing to worry about. The only way to find out is to try and monitor carefully. Good luck!

Define "destroy."

If you are fine losing a few corals, I think it would work. Fleshy LPS and zoas/palyps seem to be the first ones to go. All your SPS should be fine, but there is always a chance as mentioned.

I agree with the others. Angels are hit or miss in reefs. If that was my tank, I would not chance it. That is one of the nicest tanks i have seen in a while. :inlove:

Just noticed, you have a flame angel, how is he doing? Does he bother any of your softies? I really like them, but have not had one because of the coral nipping they can do. Also I want a clam, and from what I hear-they will definatly nip at clam mantles.

Its hit or miss. you have to ask yourself is it worth the chance? odds are though like mentioned before your zoo's will be toast and fleshy lps.

hmmm if it were all SPS I would say go for it but you have some nice LPS and zoanthid pieces. Are you prepared to risk them?

Why not try a Regal or a Genicanthus? They are mostly reef safe and there are some stunning geni pairs out there that you could try without risking your reef. If it were my tank I'd just wait till I could find a "used" blueline from someone else that I knew was reefsafe.

How big is the Blue-line? Smaller angels in that Genus tend not to be destructive at first. But they will groe, & the risk to your Zoas & LPS corals will increase as well.

I think I will pass on the Blueline.

The flame is not doing any damage at all, however the pyramid butterfly is killing some of the coral.

I do have a regal angel in my tank. He is nipping at some corals but not all.

I just don't want to make the same mistake as the pyramid butterfly again. Reef safe? yea right.

Do you feed it a lot? I thought that keeping them super fat was a way of keeping them from eating stuff. Good to know if they are serious nippers. They would look stunning in a FO anyways.

The way I handle it is... Have a frag tank setup. If an angel likes a particular coral, it is moved to the frag tank before damage is done. Then you will eventually get down to corals that he will not eat. Your reef looks primarly stony so you will not be moving much. Even if they peck it will not do much damage because there is so much variety in your tank. Zoas and LPS will be its primary targets. Looking at your reef, if you pulled them, it would still be stunning.

I kept two pyramid butterflies in my reef with sps, lps, and softies for about 8 months, and they don't touch any corals. You might not be feeding him enough.

Keep in mind that two great ways of attempting to keep "nippers" from nipping is to feed a lot and keep them occupied (tankmates for one)... however, all fish still have their own personality and will do what they want, when they want.

I wouldn't risk it....wait...yes I am :D

My regal ate chalices and favias so it went. The corals healed withing two weeks, but the regal was worth it for the time I had it.

For those people who say they wouldn't risk it, "I have no comment"
