My lfs is getting a big order of blueline angels. I was thinking of getting one and possibly a pair to try to pair them up. Does anyone have any thoughts or expierence on how to best do this? I have a 120 gallon tank with 3 chromis and an Achilles tang who is very peaceful. Does anyone have any expierence with pairing or keeping these beautiful fish? Thank you in advance.

Is your tank 48" or 72"? BL angels get to about 9" so it probably will get tight down the road in a 120. I bought a 4.75" BL back in March 2009 and it's now over 6" and a smaller one 3.5" in September 2009 is now 4.5".

I've a trio in a 120 (48") now and eventually I'll need to move them into a bigger tank but for the next year or so they should be fine. See the link to a thread on Juv Blueline you will see quite a few members here have pairs or trio going.

I don't see any problem getting a pair of BL with your current stocking list. I recommend getting 2 with a sizable difference otherwise they may fight for dominance. The smaller ones are much easier to getting eating prepared food. Out of my 3 there's a lot of chasing between the 2 larger but the largest one leaves the smallest one alone,

Take a look at the thread on Juv Blueline Angelfish starting on page 5

Good luck with the pairing! :)

My tank is 48x24x24, yeah they are a beautiful fish. Thanks for the quick reply and advice. Are they hard to take care of? And Im getting one juvenile for sure, how big should the other one be so that they dont fight? I still want it to be as small as possible that way I can keep it for longer! :) thanks again for your help.

I've a trio in a sump with the same dimension as your tank. The 2 3/4" BL doesn't bother the 1 7/8" BL but will chase the 2 1/4" BL and the 2 1/4" BL will chase the 1 7/8" BL. I suppose if the difference is around 3/4-1" they should be fine. My other pair in another tank the 6" still chases the 4 1/2" around.

My trio started eating always the very next day and most folks here been reporting the juvies are eating prepared food pretty quick. The 4" and up are not quite as easy to get them eating and I'd one that was 7" that took about 6.5 weeks before eating frozen.

here's a short video of the trio 2 weeks ago

How many is your store getting? Also, I'd recommend getting one somewhat larger than the other. I have one that is 2.5" and one that is 3.25". I have them separated by eggcrate in QT, but have removed it several times to see how they'll do together.

So far there is aggression, but I think it should workout (especially when they make it into my DT). I will try and get a video of it later tonight and post here so you can see how they interact together. Some squaring off, but no nipping at fins, or real physical damage.

Sorry its been awhile. I had some problems come up. But I guess the guy said that they should be coming soon, I think middle of next week
