I acquired this fish a couple of weeks ago believing it to be a Bodianus opercularis, but have not been able to find any other pictures of other individuals with the yellow coloring. Is the yellow common with the species? Regardless, I sure like him.
Yes it is Bodianus opercularis. some of the slender Bodianus, such as opercularis, neopercularis, and "kimura" show the yellow as a regional variant, and also at different stages of maturity, at least in aquaria they do.
Thanks. The regal is not eating much yet. He is healthy, picks at the live rock, but not eating any of the food I put in: clams, live blackworms, mysis, Rod's food, Hikari angelfish blend...
