Hey yawl,

I found a 150G with the bottom trim for sale for supper cheap and bought it. Is this bottom trim needed for any ki d of integrety to the tank or just for show. It is just the bottom brace that the tank sits on.

That one concerns me a bit and I wouldn't use it as is without replacing the trim (fairly easy/cheap task)..
The bottom trim isn't so much structural but it does help alleviate pressure points on the glass,etc..
I would remove it and replace its functionality with a new trim or similar..

I would remove it. As far as pressure points are concerned I would rather have the entire bottom of the tank sitting flush as opposed to 1/2" (If that) pressure points around the tank.

Figure a gallon of water weighs 8.34 pounds.. at 150 gallons that is 1248lbs.

Lets assume the tank in question is 24"H X 72"L X 18"D. If the tank were to sit with the entire bottom flush to the stand then the 1248lbs of water would be distributed among 1296in^2. So roughly a lb of water per square inch.

If the tank were to sit on a 1/2" trim outlining the bottom of the tank about 41in^2 would take a majority of the water load.

I would not use a tank that was designed with a frame without said frame. There is a reason it was put on in the first place, and I have no desire to do a leak/stress test with 150g of saltwater in my living room.

Could it be just fine? Sure. Just not in my house.
