Bottomless FishTank Build :-)

ok so ive decided to make a bottomless tank. im just curious about them and everything, so i figured id give it a try. i know this is saltwater forum but my first one is going to be fresh water just to test it out and see how hard or easy it is to maintain over a normal tank. ive found some nice large pieces of glass for fairly cheap, well i think it is? you guys tell me this is what the guy said in the email

"Hi,We have heavy duty glass, for a $100. I will give you 2,5ftx20" and the sides
And I have. The bottom glass, also we have some 4x8 sheets worth looking at ***-*** Jon"

the "*" was his number i just though it was best not to pass around other peoples phone numbers :-P not sure exactly what he meant by everything but it sounded like a good deal

so i have found some glass to make the tank if its the right thickness and can hold the weight of the water. this is going to be my first attempt at ever building a tank so im going to be learning alot. this project will most likely be slow due to buying the materials step by step and prolly paycheck to paycheck or every other paycheck or w.e

as this will be my first build ever help and advice from everyone here would deff help out and save me tons of mistakes and losses. if anyone is interested in being a part of it let me know as i will need to find someone who can cut the glass and drill it :-P and help design it and best way to build it and so on. i have the main design and dimensions for the bottom tank i was thinking 48 inches long, 32 inches wide and 18 inches tall. thats my first thing to get started and build and after that then comes the tank that goes inside it and for that i was thinking 16 inches wide, 24 inches long, but not sure about height yet, and not sure how i want or will be able to secure it into the bottom tank thats best pleasing to the eyes.

so any tips, pointers, suggestions, donations, help, jut about anything is welcome and wont be turned down or criticized :-)

so the first step is t get this glass and build the bottom main tank :-) then we go from there :-P but like i said im going to need help cutting the glass to the right sizes, so if you can help id appreciate it TONS :-)

Wow, that is pretty sweet looking!!! I had no idea there even was such a thing. How does the water stay up in the center container? When there are no pumps running how does the water all stay in place?

same way the water stayed in the cup when you where a little kid and playing in the bathtub and stuck the cup in the water turned it upside down and pulled up, the water stays in the tank until it is lifted from the water. quick run to your sink. fill it with water, get a glass cup, full place it under the water, turn it upside down, now pull up on the cup, boom water stays in the cup. no pumps needed

not so sure on all the scientific names and stuff for it yet :-P

my only addition to that build would be to insert the magfloat before turning it upside down into the bottom half....

kat kat kat, i can insert a magfloat at any time. the tank has a open bottom ;-P to allow the fish 2 swim from tank 2 tank. the tank isnt going to be touching the bottom of the main tank. but that deff was a good suggestion :-)

What do you plan to do for flow?

i was thinking some waterfalls inside the upside down tank and then 2 nice waterfalls on each side of the bottom tank. any better ideas? i could use powerheads but that would take a few of them and look ugly i think.

I gotta say i'm disappointed your not taking the plunge into saltwater with this one though :(

if u donate the salt, skimmers and lights ill do saltwater :-)
