Brain Coral Growth

I have a question about my open brain coral. This has been one of my favorite corals, so I want to keep it in good health. What is the growth on my open brain pictured below? Can I just reach in the tank and remove it? There may be another one or two but I am not sure yet. Any suggestions are appreciated.

that looks like sand or a little pebble w/ airbubbles on it.. Have you tried to just brush it off? Is it STUCK on?
i would also try to brush it off. maybe with water movement first.

I will try to brush it off this evening. I think it is attached though because it has gotten bigger in recent weeks.

I'm wondering if it's a clump of sand/mucus. If sand gets onto the brain's tissue, it'll try to push it off. Maybe the brain just needs a little help to get the clump of goo off.

That makes sense. I have a couple of fish that like to get a mouthful of sand and spit it out from several inches up in the water column. It goes everywhere when they do that. I have seen it on the brain in the past.

It is now gone. It was exactly that, sand held together with algae. It took a little effort to get it off the brain, but not much. The coral receeded some when I removed the junk. It will recover soon enough. Thanks for all the advice.
