Also, go get some colored sticks (sps)! You have the equipment to keep it, skip the GSP and Xenia and get serious :)

colored sticks?

i paid 50$ for this brain thing...and cant help but feel ripped off sadly the store i went to is the cheapest an if i try to purchase online itll be 30 plus 30 shipping so its not good that way either . yes i built the tank so i can get serious with but im tring to be responsable since im new to the hobby. dont wish to rush and kill things / spend money doing it.

Follow the good advice given above and it should pull through. I bought one from my LFS that was in the same boat as yours. Here is a before and after shot

UPDATE I FOUND IT KNOCKED OVER THE ROCK FACE DOWN ON THE GLASS.

reached in there to turn it over and move it under the overhang and this is what it looks like.

as you can see the right side of it is starting to crap out... the lest side however before i had moved it was pretty puffed up...

any ideas? is this thing dead? is it gonna ruin the water?

cover it with the top to a pop bottle that has small holes drilled in it, with the pumps turned off. Put a few mysis shrimp on it's mouth and it should eat them.

should i put some on ther right side where its all torn up too or leave that part be?

the foods i have to give it are as follows.

-ocean nutrition formula two flakes
-nano reef coral food
-coralife invertebrate smorgasbord
-frozen brine misis and squid.

ahhh :(
i feel like such a douche because of this coral.

Even if it doesn't eat, continue to try. I took one from a friend and it had degenerated to the point where it no longer had any kind of mouth. But, it deserved a try. 3 months later, and it has 4 mouths and a ton of tentacles at night.

I would not recommend trying to remove any of its tissue. If you see it falling off, gently blow it away from the skeleton with a turkey baster, and then try to remove the waste from the water.

Try putting food on then entire thing. It doesn't look that big to begin with, so give it a try.

I would use the frozen mysis/brine/squid, and just make sure you are giving it really tiny pieces, but I've never heard of 'nano reef coral food' so I'm not sure - that might be better.

guys i have bad luck. i did what you said but i just guess it was way to late. i had bought the coral like that skinny and stuck to the skeleton thinking the skeleton whas all there was to it and it would just grow larger...i had no idea it wasnt supposed to look like that.

<a href="http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v653/alextrusca/?action=view&current=IMG_2889.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v653/alextrusca/IMG_2889.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

fed it last night...this morning all the food was gone but i cant say wether or not somehow it just fell off and it got swept away by the mild current that got in there.

this is how i found it today.

<a href="http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v653/alextrusca/?action=view&current=IMG_2892.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v653/alextrusca/IMG_2892.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

question is...should i remove it and throw it away ? i dont want to end up with problems like ammonia in there.

i wanna swear really bad right now :(

Doesn't look good. I'd be inclined to give it a lugols dip.

FWIW I lost one of these and its one of only 2 corals I've ever lost. Mine just bleached out and the tissue receeded from the edge of the skeleton just like yours looked like a few pics back. Tried putting it under more shade but it was too late, continued to bleach so I just tossed it.

I think I had it in too much light even though it was at the bottom of my tank. Should have put it under a cave or something at first, they seem to be more sensitive than most corals to lighting changes.

add to that how very fragile they are, the tiniest scrape will puncture the tissue and can be a site of infection. Normall they would heal fine, but being wounded and light acclimating is alot of stress.

whats a lugols dip?

ive never had a coral die out on me before but then again ive only owned a torch zoas xenia clam before...

im wondering if i should just throw it away or try to clean it in a separate container and try to chip away the dead skeleton or whatever...

i was hoping id get answers sooner than later im trying to avoing my water going bad.

lugols is a specific formulation of iodine that good for treating injured corals and also for getting pests off corals.

most LFS should have it, if no plenty of online retailers cary it. it is probably also available at certain pharmacies and medical supply stores.

Again, I would blow off the dead tissue with a turkey baster, remove it from the water, and leave the coral where it is. Any tissue means it is not dead yet.
