hey,

i was brain-storming a bit. im trying to figure out if its possible to take out most of the crushed coral and replace it with sand. the crushed coral is only going to cause problems as with the last water change i did there was so much gunk and garbage in there.

whats the easiet way to do this. Is it going to be a problem takin out the crushed coral with fish and and anemone in there? wouldnt that put a sudden change in the bacteria in the tank?

any suggestions?

thanks in advance

ok, sounds easy enough. :)

so just take a like a cup full out what everyday or every other day?

and when im empty on crushed coral i can add sand little by little to prevent sand storms?

thanks

I thought he had a bad experience at Country Critters and wanted to "take them out"...:)

You could siphon some out when you do a water change, that way you are getting the CC and the detritus, otherwise take out small amounts/ day with a small net. I prefer to siphon it out.

Thanks Joe. i have that python syphon. Everytime i do a water change i of course go to clean the detritus from the CC and such. Its not enough flow to bring up the crushed coral though.

so should i just use the net or is there a secret to syphoning im missing? lol

thanks

Get rid of the bigger diameter section of the Python, as it is designed NOT to suck out the substrate. The flow is enough to suck out the gravel, but with the bigger cross section of the Python, the flow velocity is slowed. Just use the hose part, or a bigger diameter length of hose (it won't clog as easily) to pull out the substrate.

thanks alot joe...so suck out a little every other day?

and when most is gone(as it will be impossible to get it all) i just take sand and put it in slowly to prevent storms? how should i go about putting the sand in? rinse it before use?

im going to be using the old castle sand from home depot.

thanks

Now if that was the case I would have advised large quantities of C-4 :D
