I have been thinking about getting a brain worm coral and have read that it puts off a lot of mucus. How does that affect your tank parameters?

never herd of a brain worm coral. but theres lots of brains. :D open, closed, maze are the only types of brains i know of. none of which should be putting off any mucus if they are happy.

It is green with dark red lines through it..kind of reminds you of something you would see in a mad scientist show........you can view it at liveaquaria.com under LPS hard corals....

I found this at the Doctors, here it is.............

"The Platygyra Brain Worm Coral is a large polyp stony (LPS) coral and is also referred to as Brain, Maze, Closed Brain, or Bowl Coral. Its genus name, Platygyra, was derived from the Greek words platys (flat) and gyros (wide circle), which describes the maze-like channels in its calcareous skeleton. The Brain Worm Coral colonies are usually massive and either dome-shaped or flattened, with various color shades of green, brown, or gray and contrasting valleys which may be fluorescent under actinic lighting."

theres the problem, i call Platygyra sp. Maze Brain. anyway, as long as its healthy the mucus will not be a concern. the sweeper tentacles will, however. just be sure to give it about 4-6" of space from any other coral and it should do fine. they are fairly aggresive when it comes to space. the mucus should not effect the water parameters.
