Branching frogspawn and Odd Happenings

my frogspawn is occasionally releasing some of its extensions. one head has a large bubble in the middle which I read was a sign of it trying to leave lil ones on the rock at some later time, but for the 2nd night in a row, I have seen a small patch of fully inflated "tentacle" floating round my tank. I have not noticed any fish annoying it, nor does it look the least bit unhappy. here are the fish: Watanebei angel (swallow tail), purple tank, false percula(hosts in fuzzy shroom and never ventures to that end of the tank), bi color blenny, 2 bar gobies, 1 fire goby, diamond goby. All are "reef safe" and none have exhibited any signs of nipping what so ever.

any ideas on why it is releasing bits of these polyps?

The floater looks like what might happen if you cut off one of the extensions and then tied it up to keep it fully inflated (think blown up rubber glove). Coral looks extremely healthy and entends its polyps fully. it has 5 large heads and about 15 tiny heads to it.

Oh yea, water parameters are good. ammonia, nitrite nitrate phosphate all zero. ph 8.2, alk in normal range, salinity 1.025, calcium over 500ppm. 75 gallon tank with a 8 gallon sump and skimmer. good water flow with 440wt VHO. all other corals (sps and softies) doing extremely well. coral is placed mid level in tank. with med flow.

When mine gets a bubble in it it usually starts to split a few days after that. So I hope this is what yours is doing.

I've seen it before with my Euphyllia spp.I've heard that this can be a form of "long distance warfare".The tentacle "balloons" are bouyant and can float around the tank and sting a coral if it comes in contact with it.

how much damage do you think it might do to a mumps leather. one extension fromthat seems to be not near as happy as the others

the frogspawn will win. has your leather shown any signs of being stung? you might want to give him a little extra room if possible.
