Breathable tank top

I have an open-top tank, and yesterday one of my fish jumped out. Luckily, my wife was right there and just threw him back in. I'm going to get a top for my tank now, but I don't want glass or acrylic because it gets hot in the summer, and I don't want to mess with having a chiller. I'm looking for something similar to a grate that will let air in, keep fish from jumping, but not block too much light. Anyone know of anything?

You can use a screen top from a reptile store.

I personally went to home depot and picked up some material to make a standard window screen and made my own top for my 150 and 55. Alot cheaper then anything else out there, let's it breath and won't hurt the fish if they jump into it.

Bulk Reef Supply has some 1/4" clear screening that will let light in and keep fish in. You just use regular window screen components and tools to build it. That is the stuff is what I will be using, as I want as much light penetration as possible while avoiding the dreaded "carpet jerky".

Bulk Reef Supply sells clear screening which will block a lot less light than the standard screening sold at Home Depot. I would go with that.

I use BRS 1/4" clear netting with screen frame found in an hardware store. easy to do in 5-10 minutes...
blocks only around 5-10% of the light...
you can see the frame on the top of my aquarium here :
