Breeding Shrimp in a Refuguim

All,

Newbie needs some advice.
I would like to try to breed some shrimp in a sump/refugium (All-Glass MEGAFLOW FILTER MODEL 4) that I also just put a little Chaetomorpha in it. My goal is that the shrimp will bread (regularly I hope) and that the livestock in the display tank will be able to feed off of them. Anyone have any advice on what kind of shrimp would be ideal?

I assume you mean feeder shrimp? If so glass shrimp would be great! You'd need to find some saltwater ones or acclimate some freshwater ones to salt. Let me know if you succeed, it'd be great to have a local source for salt water ghost shrimp!

You can get brine shrimp hatcheries off ebay pretty cheap. Main thing is, unless you gut feed the shrimp, there really is not a whole lot of nutritional value to them. With the hatchery, you can put it right in the tank and as long as the temp is up to 78 or so, in 18 hours you have babies.

That sounds really interesting! Is the acclimation process difficult? I'm going to look into that!

Anyone else?
