Breeding System

Make sure you have enough room to work on those tanks. It looks a little tight from the top of tanks to uppper shelf. Don't forget to think aboout your light fixture and how much space it will take up.

I would support the entire weight of those tanks, especially the way those are built, with a flat bottom(framless).

You may want to think about insulating all painted sides of your tank. This will help with electrical consumption.

Paint that tank stand to protect it from saltwater. Plus it looks much cleaner and thought out.

Great idea with painting the stand. That is on the cards but I am travelling for the next weeks odd so will do that when I get back.

The missus has already beaten me up on that one.

Kathy,

Not yet. I have the drill bit, and now need to practice on drilling. Will let you know how it goes.

Steve

PS: Thanks for that last article you sent it was an interesting read.

Well folks,

It is time for an update today. Finally I am getting some things done again.

Today, I drilled 14 holes. Yes all the tanks have now got their overflow holes drilled, and I must say that it was not as bad as I thought it wouldb be.

The great thing is that I never broke a single tank. :D , Yes I did this all by myself too.

Now I need to clean the tanks up and take the old paint off the side. Will do this by the end of next weekend as I am off out again on a business trip on Monday.

Will also order all the tank connectors tomorrow so that they are around for the weekend, so that I can get on with that too.

Then it is down to the plumbing overflows to the sump and then the returns.

Hey who knows maybe we will be able to do a water test first or second week into december.

Steve

Update time again.

Unfortunately rather late, but all the tanks now have only 2 sides with paint on them. Will all be washed tomorrow.

Need to collect the bits for the plumbing and then get that done. So all in all things are moving nicely.

Will do a clean up of the area where they are going to go and then take some pics.

DMan,

Thanks for the ideas. I am hoping that I will have a similar concept. Each tank can be isolated from the system, and apart from 2 all can be removed. Now when I do the plumbing, that is going to be interesting as all the tanks were bottom drilled so that I can manage the water level in the tanks easier.

I have loads of qestions about some of the stuff that you have in your gallery.

1) Those filters, can you get more and would you post them to me if possible.

2) What is the tube holder for?

Your setup looks great, I wish I had that much space available.

One thing I will say, is that all my tanks are high at the moment, but the plan is that they will all get replaced over time. They cost me about $2.00 each as apposed to $20 for new. So the plan is that once a hatch has occured the tanks will be replaced with newer shallower ones.

I shall post pic as things happen.

Steve

spk,
Those filters are actually the endcaps from rolls of bags, I can get my hands on lots of them and should be albe to send you a couple or more. :D
BUt if you tanks are bottom drilled it would probably be easier to stuff the tops of the overflows with the screening material.
I sanded the face and hot glued different sized screens to them according to the size of the fry.
The tube holder is for my G. oceanops eggs. They lay eggs in a 20cm length of CPVC and I use that to bubble the eggs just before the hatch.

Dman,

Good suggestion. Thanks for the ideas. Lets forego the sending now and I will see what and how things perform.

cb747,
Very nice and clean set-up on your rack system. What size are the tanks? The top looks like a 20 L, but the other tanks look to be smaller than a standard 10, are they cubes?
Great set-up!

Take care.

I used to have a similat drain setup to yours. What I had done is run 2" PVC tubing and put a T section where each tank was, then simply run the vinyl tubing into the T. Wasn't a tight fit, but there really wasn't enough flow to cause any issues.

RCS,

My plan is for a drain of 63mm at the bottom, slightly more than 2" and then each tank drain is 32mm, slightly more than an inch.

It will be hard piped throughout. But I will not glue for easy maintenance.

Update Time again.....

Yes I know some time and water has gone under the bridge. Work commitments and what not have slowed this down, but the moment of truth has arrived.
I will be doing a leak test tomorrow.

Returns are plumbed, drains are plumbed. Now we test the water flow. If there are no leaks then we start with the RO water on Sunday evening.

Steve

PS: There are loads that I am wishing that I had done so differently already. :D

Steve,
Let's see some pics when you're done.
Also would love to hear what you would have done different.

Thanks,
Kevin

Leak Test.........

Oh well, the places where I thought there would be problems had none and the places where I was confident there would be no problems, there were loads.

Nothing major, need to remove the bulk heads and silicone them. So rather a large task ahead of me at the moment.
