Bright Pink and Yellow Leathers?

I went to the lfs the other day and they had these huge and bright yellow and bright pink finger leathers. I was just wondering how hard they are to take care of? are they considered beginner corals, because if I am going to spend that much money I want to make sure I can get them?

My system- 50g DT, 10g Refuge, 192 pc watt lighting. I do have some beginner corals that are thriving.

What store? How bright were they? If way too bright then there is a chance they were dyed. Usuallly the super brights, such as the yellow sarcophyton, need strong lighting to do well. Bright pinks, usually to me indicate a neptheya/dendronepthea type coral which do not do well.. A description as you provided is hard to tell what they really are though.

Well, they were soft corals not hard corals, and I dont know the exact names of the corals, but they arent the ones you listed. They look like finger leathers, and they were pink, and bright yellow.

It's hard to say without pics or a detailed description ... Michael knows what he's talking about.

FWIW, here's an article Anthony Calfo wrote a few years back about the dyed corals Michael spoke of. Some non-photosynthetic corals [like the dendro/neptheas mentioned] are naturally bright colors - as can be some leathers as well.

Thus it's hard to say without seeing ...

Ill keep looking for the name of the coral, but Im not having any luck. Its like a finger leather coral. And I am guessing that it is probably died.
