Bright Red algae in my BB reef

FWIW my friend has this also and ur right on track he got it when he changed his PC's out and it was in the high flow areas when he cut his lighting down it slowed down alot

I had it before using AA. But have stopped using AA. It hasn't made it grow any more, just thought I would stop and see if it did make it go away.

i use aa",but i dont think aa" have something to do with this type of algae.but again u never know:))

I don't dose any AA's here.
But I drop my temperature down to 75F to 78F to see if the algae will go away.

After doing a good bit of research on this turf algae. Seems the Mexican turbos are the way to go. I had several in my 225. And the algae was starting to go away. I have 2 now, but they can't eat it fast enough. I'm going to pick up a few more this week and I'll post here if they help. It seems most people that have had this algae reports the Mexicans did eat it.

Hey Steve, It's Merv. A few guys and I are ordering from reeftopia on Wednesday or Thursday night, let me know if you want to try out the blue leg or some Mex Turbos. I'll drop them off on Friday if you want.

I got 20 to try from Jason .

Yes they do. I plan to put them in the refug when they get that big. Or take them back to the LFS for credit or exchange for smaller ones. I think I'd rather deal with them instead of the red turf trying to over grow everthing.

You may want to double check, but I don't think they reeftopia sells the Mex turbo, just astrea, and other snails, crabs. You may want to try www.drsfostersmith.com they sell them among others.

I had a very similiar red. A small purple tang completely eliminated it. He still cruises the places it used to be looking for it.

Zoom, FWIW, I had plenty of this when I accidently kept my tank at 75 for a few months. It will probably slow it down but I don't think it will eliminate it.

Thanks Travis.
Did you notice any thing different in your SPS when the temp was down to 75F?

Yeah, they didn't grow as fast.;) I don't think that would be much of a problem for you though. I still can't believe the growth you are getting on that AC red milli.:eek2:

Well i try to keep my at 75F but I can't i don't have my chiller on any more don't need it after the change over, the temperature in my tank is steady 77F to 79F.
Yes the red milli is growing fast i just moved some corals out of the way so it can grow very big.

Anyone make a dent in this stuff? Still fighting it-blue legs can't seem to keep up with the stuff. I am sick of looking at it.

Gayle, I let it grow in one of the tubs in the greenhouse. One that I can keep isolated.
I have tried everything I can get my hands on, and only one thing has touched it so far.

It's what you call the teardrop or decorator crab.

"It's what you call the teardrop or decorator crab."

I am not familiar with them? Are they harmful in an SPS reef?
