bright red algae?

I have two spots about as big as a nickel on the lower part of my tank, yet within direct light. They are both a bright rich red color, almost like a blood red. They are not pruple, not rose, not maroon, these two spots on the rocks are a strking red color. Any idea? They look like an algae, not bumpy.

I am thinking it might be the form of coraline that is red. I am seeing good growth of the purple too, I see spots of purple on 'dead' rocks, and even on hermits and snail shells. There is a good photo on Melev's reef site, here is the link, it is near the bottom of the page.

Could very well be type of coraline as well. Is it easily removed from the rock with a blast from a baster, or siphon hose.
