Bringing Corals on an Airplane?

Hmmm.. the question is whether or not I should declare my possesion of live animals. I suppose if I don't they will open the box and look if they are suspicious. Would they confiscate them? I am thinking they would let me keep them and leave me some sort of note.

They might not know a coral is a live animal anyway most people think they are just colorfull stix LoL. If they ask why the water just tell them your keeping them moist.

I was working in Oregon for about three months, and happen to be working next to Upscales. I brought numerous frags in bags back to Cali with no problem. I bought a small lunch/cooler back with an ice pack and took it as carry on. They exrayed it and asked what was in it. I opened it up for them and they got a good laugh everytime. No Problem
This was last year.

I work at an airport and as long as its not any sort of liquid (ie lotions, gels, etc.) you should be fine. i would do like you said and wrap them in a very wet cloth. and when they ask just tell em what it is and show em if you have too....

Here was my plan.

I was planning on taking about 20-40 frags home of SPS, prolly about 1" each. I was going to get thermos or two, and wrap each frag in half a paper towel, wet of course, and just put a ton inside the thermos. Then I would put the thermos inside the baggage, and it should good to go. Would I need to tell them there are live animals, or do you think it won't matter either way? But, since there is no real amount of liquid I should be able to take it on the plane with me right? I could say it was live animals, not dangerous, and not in any liquid.
Thanks for all the input guys.
I appreciate it.

To ship these for $60 when youre getting them for free doesnt sound like a terribly life threatening fee. If youre that worried about it bite the bullet and ship them...

That also adds the risk of them getting lost, broken, or dying. I'd rather have them right by my side than somewhere near San Fransisco lost in a sorting room.

Pretty much the same risk you run putting them in baggage in an aircraft but with a much smaller risk of them being opened to see just what they are...

Good luck either way.

put 'em in water, and you'll be good if you dont get everything 'til the next day. Little risk, little thought.
