bristle worms

I spent several nights over the course of my first year of owning my tank with a flash light discovering new things nearly every time. Always amazing!!! When I've moved my tank and had to grab the rock out or scoop sand I've thought of those nights and all the various critters in there.

Sad news; I found my newly discovered bristleworm dead today in my new tank. I can't figure out why he died. He was in about 8 chunks, floating around the tank. There's nothing in the tank that could have pulled him apart... so I'm guessing the transfer to the new tank was too much, and he just died and disintegrated. It was pretty sad, despite how gross he was.

They can elongate pretty long from their nominal size. If you used anything like tweezers to pull them out especially if they weren't fully out in the open could have caused this stress and separation points. I don't think beyond their protective spines they have much integretiy to their body.

Always a sad day when you lose something in your tank. I have tons in my 29 gal and come by some time and we'll see if one's out and you can have him (and others if their out as well).

Nothing wrong with bristle worms, they can be very beneficial to your tank. They are not predators of fish and help keep your tank cleaner.
