Bristleworm Trap (that actually works!)

Here is a link to a drawing of a bristle worm trap that I made and removed hundreds of "LARGE" bristleworms from my tank. It's easy to use and make. It incorporates a siphon system that allows you to remove the worms from the trap without removing the trap or the bait.

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask I have a good amount of experience with the traps so I should be able to answer any questions you may have.

I had the Hawian Fireworm and some over 12". I had the most success while using dried krill for bait.

The trap is made of 3/4" CPVC but PVC would be fine traps made out of 1/2" also did well and caught just as many large worms as the larger traps. The traps were NOT glued together. This allows you to properly remove any bristleworms that may get stuck and to clean the trap.

good job....another easy trick :)

a simple nylon with some stinky shirmp pieces in it. Drop it in the tank with a string, so you can pull it out.......they cling to it like glue!
its like fishing...............:)

It works great especially on the bigger 'nusiance' worms. Once you have the trap baited and in the tank:

suck some water through the hose until you create a siphon then close the ball valve. Then you sit and wait...... When you see a worm crawl in open the ball valve and watch him get siphoned out of the trap into your bucket!! If you don't want to sit and watch the trap I usually would siphon every 30min - 1hr.

Sometimes you will have a 'skiddish' worm that will not crawl all the way in the trap. When this happens let him get his head in the hole and siphon. 90% of the time the siphon will actually suck the worm into the trap and into your bucket.

I have subscribed to this thread so if anyone has any questions feel free to ask. I will try to get some pics up this weekend to give you a better idea of the setup.

Racenrich: I tried the nylon in my tank (before i came up with this trap) and I had a few problems with it.

1. I could only catch the smaller worms. The bigger ones would let go before I could get them out of the tank.

2. My fish kept messing with the nylon which would scare away the worms.
