Brittle star

I woke this morning to find my star had lost a leg i took it out of the tank and it is still moving so my question is why and what should i do with it. it is kinda gross just wiggling at the bottom at the bottom of my tank. any input would be great

keep it there and see if it will grow a 2nd starfish
