Brittle stars

Do they multiply quickly in a reef tank ?

I heard they drop legs which develop into a complete star with time.
But I think it depends on what type of star.

Over all, Brittle starfish can be and are (type of) predators and do not belong within a reef aquarium setting.

None of the brittle stars reproduce by dropping legs. Some species can reproduce asexually by fission, but they typically need at least 3 legs to be able to survive. For that reason, if a species normally only has 5 legs that's a pretty good indication that it doesn't reproduce sexually. None of the large species sold in the hobby will, but many of the smaller species that hitchhike in reproduce very quickly by splitting.
