broken montipora

i got a new plating motipora (cap?) yesterday and while placing it in my tank, i broke a piece of it off. if i simply put the piece back where it was, will the two pieces eventually grow back together? or should i take this new "frag" and grow it on a new piece of LR?

this happens alot. I bought a 5 inch round piese one day and the guy went to back room and came out , it was in many pieces. I made many frags and they all made it. capricornis are very hardy. I would go ahead and superglue this piece to a new rock rubble or if theres a free place on the same rock to superglue that would be fine too. dont worry , it grows very fast one it acclimates. I would not try and let them grow together, probably not the quickest way.

I say grow a new piece. Two for the price of one.

Absolutely.

Mount it above or below the other and they will plate and swirl together. Could be a dramatic effect in time.

This has happened to me, I just set it ON TOP of one of the plates and it fuses back onto the coral.

try dropping a six inch piece while standing on a stepladder. I just threw the ten+ pieces into a pile of live rock at the bottm.

i got the plating monti for $15. it is about 5 inches in diameter. the digi started as a frag with about 3 branches. it has really been growing well.
