brook got me

Well I'm about 90 percent sure that what happened to me was a brook outbreak and now keeping the DT fallow for a few months. Is there any way to speed up that time period, like a uv sterilizer or something along those lines? If not I'm more than willing to go fallow for awhile

UV won't do anything. it only kills whatever passes through it. you will need to understand the life cycle of parasites in order to understand why long fallow time is needed.

Ok...I'm just gonna get started on setting up my QT and when that's done and by time the new fish is quarantined i will be ready to start over

Went to the lfs today and one of the guys told me to add fish vets revive to my DT because it's safe for corals and inverts and wait a week and it will be safe for fish again

I don't beleive him lol...what do you guys think, i am now using a qt but would it be good to add to my DT anyway just to maybe help a bit?

Whoever told you that, I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him.

You could take everything out let it air dry. I would wait a week or longer. In the meantime start cycling some base rock in a rubermaid tub. In a month after you have cycled everything you can start adding fish after they have been in qt. That is what I did in my last tank that I suspected had ich. Now everything is great and I see no sign of disease in any fish.

Oh and please don't preach about how if i used qt this wouldn't happen i now know that and made a rookie mistake

He's trying to get you go buy something, or he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Either way he's wrong

Is it a good treatment for qt if signs of brook show again? My first fish in qt are going to be clowns again
No, proper treatment for brook is Formalin

^^^^^YES^^^^^
.....and Formalin is cheap and hard to find, a good med to always have on hand. Brook doesn't give you any time to waste.

Good luck!

If you don't have it I'd recommend picking up Cupramine (copper for ich and velvet), and Prazi Pro (for internal parasites) as well. There's other meds that get used, but these are by far the most common, and typically the ones you want to administer asap.

If you want to have a medicine kit, I suggest:

* Copper, ideally cupramine - for ich and other external parasites; tank transfer is preferred for ich (cryptocaryon irritans)
* Praziquantel - for flukes and worms; administered to all new fish
* nitrofurazone - for open wounds or sores
* Metronidazole - for intestinal and other protozoa
* Formalin - for brook and other external parasites
* Erythromycin and Minocycline - for bacterial prevention/treatment
* Food enhancers such as Selcon, Vitality, and Eco Garlic for appetite stimulation

anybody know where i can order it

I must have missed this part...

Drs. Foster and Smith should carry it, They seem to have a larger online selection than most of the other websites I've looked at. They're one of the less expensive places I've found online, and are the folks that run Live Aquaria/Divers Den. Though tbh, I mainly order from them since we're both in Wisconsin, and I get my orders the next day if I order early in the day. Totally worth the 5% tax.
