Would Brook/Velvet show up in water that is 1.020sg? I have has three tangs in QT now for 6 weeks and I am about to drop them in the main tank. I was keeping the sg at what I got them in and i was just going to drip acclimate them tonight. Should I be worried about Brook or Velvet or am I in the clear?

Hypo has to be kept at 1.009 (but no lower)-1.010 to be effective against ich. For brooke and velvet however, hypo has likited effectiveness. Formalin baths are more effective for brook. The parasites can be found in brackish water which is why they can survive better in those conditions compared to ich. A freshwater dip would help with any parasites on the fish, but Formalin really is going to be a better option. Are you seeing signs of ich, brook, or velvet?

No I'm not seeing any signs. I was just wondering if I would see anything with 1.020 water. I would like to get the in the DT already and I just wanted to make sure it would show over the last 6 weeks. How long does Brook/Velvet take to show? Everything I've read seems to be you know in the first 2-3 days, but I've never seen it so I have no idea.

Yes, every parasite/disease/infection can be present in that SG. It could take awhile for a disease or parasite to show it's ugly face, especially if the vendor had them in cooper before purchase. It is known that cooper can mask some parasites. On that note, you get the fish home and don't see any signs of being sick and 2-6 weeks down the road it breaks out with something. That's why it's recommended to quarantine from anywhere to 6-10 weeks. My total quarantine process is from 8-10 weeks.
