Poor guy. I don't imagine there's much I can do for him then. Assuming the only real way to treat that would be with medicated food, which he wouldn't be likely to eat.

I've had good luck dosing metrodiazonole directly into the HT. It only took one dose and he was eating again.

As luck would have it, I think I've got a container of metro on hand. Will throw a dose of it in there today. Thanks also for the link to that other thread. :thumbsup:

Oh goodness... The drama continues... Lights just came on and now I notice a lump on the side of the tilefish. See the pic attached (sorry for poor quality - it was the best I could get). You can see the hole in his dorsal fin, where what we suspect was a fluke has now fallen off. And below that, the lump on his side. Hard to see clearly, unfortunately. Could this lump on his side also be a dead fluke? Or something else?
I dosed with metro this morning and will attempt feeding shortly...

Ok, that appears to be uronemia marinum which is commonly brought in by Chromis' of late. I looked back and you had a chromis so it may have been brought in by him. The symptoms and treatments are the same as brook, however, metro is more effective in treating uronemia. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2388437

Oh goodness, really? Well I did just dose the tank with metro this morning, so will continue with that process. He is still eating (the fire fish is the one that wasn't eating). The metro I have in the closet is pretty old. I can try to get some more just to be sure I have potent stuff. This is getting ridiculous! But again, thank you for your timely responses and diagnoses!

I think that would be a good idea to get new meds but there's probably still some potency left in the old.

I completed 7 days of treatment with Metronidazole. Firefish looks good and is eating well again. Tilefish still eating well and looks better - lump on his side is almost completely gone. He still has a little something on his dorsal fin. I've attached the best pic I could get. Sorry it's not more clear, but he gets real jumpy if I get too close with the camera. It's like a brownish grey bump at the base of the dorsal fin where the fin was eaten away by whatever this is.
Should I keep treating with the metro, or discontinue and just give him nice fresh saltwater and see if it heals up?

I would stop dosing the metro for now. I would make sure the water is pristine and feed vitamin soaked food. If it doesn't clear up within a week or two then redose metro.

Today whatever this thing on the tilefish's dorsal fin looks worse. It's like a brown/grey lumpy growth at the base of the dorsal, where the fin has been eaten away. I trapped the fish in a net against the glass so I could get a better picture. I just did a 40% water change on the tank. Is this still the uronema?

It almost looks like a grape nut is lodged in his back. And after looking at more pics of Uronema marinum, it does look like that's what it is. So I'll continue the metronidazole treatment.

I'm about ready to give up on this guy. He's still active and eating, and the fire fish that is in with him looks great and eats well. But the tilefish still has this disgusting growth on his back. It looks like a brown-grey uneven lump (like a Grape Nut) and has some white on it as well. It does look like some pics of Uranema, but after 5 additional days of treatment with Metronidazole (two weeks total now), it is not showing any signs of improvement. Attached are a few pics. What is this and what should I do for it?

I've never seen something like this. If no one gives a definitive diagnosis I would send this pic to Bob Fenner at WetWebMedia.com. He's pretty good at odd maladies.

Haven't heard back from Bob. I've continued to treat with metro but I don't think it's helping. The growth is now edged in red. Pics I just took.

Pics didn't come through. If the metro isn't helping I would stop it for now.
