Brought this guy back from certain death.

I saw this guy in a LFS, skeleton was covered in hair algae. I would never intentionally introduce hair algae in my tank, but when i saw what it was i had to try and save it. There was a lot of tissue loss but i had never seen an acan like this before so i was determined. Six months later and tissue is actually growing back over the dead skeleton.

doctor64776,
i did not see it, could you possibly send me a link. i would love to see it. or under what section was it.

sorry, i saw what you talking about. But mine is a consistant purple with white stripes all over and the orange rings around the mouths.

very nice acan.. did you get a good price on it since it wasn't doing so well?

It seems pretty common at petstores I see acan thats receeding and I'd like to get it sometimes and bring it back but they'll never come down on the prices.. and I refuse to pay full price for somthing thats not in great shape..

anyway looks great and good luck w/ it!

LMK if you ever frag it :-D

Most fish stores will drop their price if it is in bad shape, i guess it depends on your relationship with them. Acans are generally very hardy, but it is tough for any coral to compete against hair algae. I new if i could get it in a good environment it would make it. I have bought three acans like that, really damaged and covered in algae and all have made almost a full recovery.
