i just started a 10gal hex nano just for reef and i just notice some brown algae on my rocks the tank has only been running for about 2 weeks or better is there ayway for me to stop this so far i got a aqua clear 30 with just carbon in it with live sand and some live rock

It sounds like the tank is just going through it's cycle. I am going through the same thing right now with my new refugium I set up.

no. Bad.
Stop using tap water, the size of the tank doesn matter, and since you have lower water volume is is probably actually WORSE.

Yup,you need to stop using tap water.
You can puchase ro water from Walmart or ro/di from LFS.
What you most likely have going on is a diatom bloom.
If you can cut out the silicates by using ro/di water this will pass.

would a Brita filter work fine for tap water

No, you should only be using RODI water. As far as the brown algae, it's a diatom algae that is simple part of a new cycling tank. You can take a turkey baster and blow it off the rocks. But in time the algae consumes all the nutrient in the water and will die off. That is unless you keep puting tap water in the tank.
