"I noticed this morning this stuff that resembles brow cobwebs any one have any thoughts what it is or how to get rid of it"

My lubbocks wrasse makes a "nest" every night from some sort of excretion.
The next day it looks like a spiderweb or cotton candy.
Could that be it?

If not I would think it is dinoflaggelates.
To get rid of thet, you need to raise your Ph using Kalk drip & turn down your calcium reactor ( if you have one ) for a while.

jlinzmaier,

"Have you read any posts in this thread at all????????"

Yes, I read them all.

Would you please tell me how any of them have helped the OP- Billfisher in any way? ( especially considering he hasnt posted since the OP )

He asked "I noticed this morning this stuff that resembles brow cobwebs "

I Have brown cobwebs every morning from my Wrasse's nest.

Sorry to post on your thread.
I wasnt aware it was a "bacterial growth theories only thread."

My apologies.

OK fair enough. Since Billfisher hasn't posted since the original post yet Blackstallion has posted several times including pics and was clearly asking for help, I was doing my best to help him/her based on my experiences. The pics he/she posted showed nearly identical growth to what I have dealt with. I was so frustrated with this growth that I had a reefkeeping friend of mine (a clinical pathologist) view it under a microscope and give me his impression. He indicated this was definately bacterial growth and showed no evidence of cell structure seen with diatoms, dinoflagellates, and other nuisance algae. I wasn't about to pursue the diagnosis any further as I couldn't justify paying a lab do gram stains and further culturing to get me an exact species of the bacteria. I merely pursued the route of finding predators of bacterial growth and was successful in my endeavors without having to diagnose any further.

Please, no hard feelings. I now see how my post was inappropriate. You were trying to adress the issue that Billfisher indicated. I got caught up in trying to help someone who was more active with posts and concerns and overlooked the origninal writers concerns.

My apologies.

Thank you again for all the help I did not mean to hijack this thread but I seen someone else was having the same problems so I posted trying to undestand and realize my problem might be the same. well things still havent changed yet but It is my fault because I havent added a good CUC because I havent had the money to do so although I did buy some phosar and have added it to my tlf reactor and I have changed the activated carbon weekly and added purigen in a little mesh bag.Oh and I also have tried to raise my magnesium from 1170 to 1300 with the korlean mag komplex.Things are not getting better and I am starting to get worried that this stuff wont go away.

I tried many different means of managing it but the CUC was what was ultimately successful. Have patience. Get a good CUC when you can and they'll take care of it.
