i have a 65 gallon tank about 14 months old, my parameters are ph 8.4, amonia 0, nitirtes 0, nitrates 0, ph is 0. i have a deltec skimmer and run phos ban and carbon in my filter. i have a nova extreme light with 6 t5 ho light bulbs. i recently changed all bulbs about two weeks ago. the last couple of days i've noticed some brown hair algae.
will it cycle away? should i be concerned?
any input would be appreciated.
thank you

Physically remove as much of it as you can. Add some new phosban (lots of it), turn your lights off for two days and you should be okay. You should consider picking up a cheap RFO/Carbon reactor, I'd never run a tank without one.

yes, it is quite normal to have a temporary algae bloom after changing bulbs, it may last anywhere from a week to a month. just keep doing what you are doing and it should pass aslong as you maintain your water, manual removal will help but is not always practical so just do what you can.

I'm also having a LOT of brown hair algae develop. New tank, 12 days into it's cycle, just went from cheap lights to a 4 bulb T5 light Sunday.

If the tank is cycling leave the lights off.

Diatoms are unavoidable with a new tank, i think lights off will just reduce it, but lights on may also promote the growth of other algaes as well.

Leave the lights out until you are adding livestock

A new tank is going to have algae blooms no matter what. Its part of the tank stablizing and growing.

Ive never been a fan of the lights out theory, cause your still not addressing the issue. But a new tank is going to have algae blooms. Including cyano.

I recomment getting use to the light cycle and setting it up perfect for you.
