Brown Jelly or Cyno?

Yesterday this sun coral was fine and today it's coated with this purple cyno looking gunk. I siphoned off as much as I could. The flesh was gone underneath the heavily coated areas. I took the coral out and put it in a lugul's dip for 10 minutes and then put it in a QT tank. I did a 20 % water change on the main tank. I'm going to continue the dip and daily water changes for the QT tank.

Ammonia 0
NO2 is 0
NO3 is less than 10
PH 8.0

I just started removing it from the main tank for feedings. I did it yesterday for the second time and I think the removal/feeding process stressed it out and caused this outbreak.

Can someone ID this? Am I on track with treatment? How about the cause?

Thanks ... it was a beautiful animal. Heartbreaking to watch it slowly die and not be able to do anything to save it. Cyano is a blessing compared to this.

Sherri, I've never seen cyano eat the flesh off of anything so I doubt that is the problem. It looks like cyano to me but it must be something else.

Could the flesh have been eaten by something and then the cyano grew afterwards ... have any coral eating critters in your tank?

looks like my sun corals after a mi8lli fell on them....I blew that crap off and a few months later, they are recovered

I'm not sure Sherri but I don't think so. I think this is some kind of bacterial infection. If you look at the pic below the flesh was waten in exactly the same areas that the stuff was covering. Of course, this would fit your theory also but I have not seen anything that looked to be eating it other than the gunk. :)

Also, when I first pulled the coral out it had regurgitated a bunch of Arcti pods I'd tried feeding it the day before.

Juicey, I hope mine does as well. I removed it from the tank though until all the purple stuff is gone.

Good luck with the coral. It was just a thought -- perhaps QT will help it recover. Sorry I could not be of much help.
