brown spots on mushroom

this one mushroom, which never looked like it did in the lfs, has had small brown spots on it for several months. i noticed today, while treating aptasia, those little brown spots moving around.
anybody know what they might be and/or how to get rid of them?

Sounds like flatworms. Are there any brown spots elsewhere in the tank?


If you suspect these are parasitizing your mushroom (which is possible but I've never heard of... but that's not saying much) you can do a nice Flatworm Exit dip on it.

Or you could treat the whole tank with Flatworm Exit, be SURE to run activated carbon in the system while you do it b/c the flatworms can release toxins in the water while they die.

It does sound like flatworms. Do you have a photo? Do you see them anywhere else, such as on the sand or rocks?

i can't figure out how to resize the pic to be able to upload it to rc.
i have not seen them anywhere else, except on a couple other mushrooms. but that's only once in a while.
i'll check it out tomorrow when the lights come on. for now, i'm gonna look up flat worms. i would say they are oblong about 2-3mm by3-4mm. give or take

is 'Flatworm Exit dip' the brand name? if not, what's a good one?

Yup, Flatworm Exit's the name, killing flatworm's the game. You could also add a Dragonet in there if you'd like to try a more natural solution, and if your tank can handle one. Flatworms of that species are harmless but can become unsightly with no control.
