When a browned out coral starts to get it's color back, what should you expect to see?
The reason I ask: I got a nice colony of a northern lights granulosa recently that arrived a little browned out. I was told from the buyer that light acclimating it was not necessary, as it had been high up under a 400w halide and my tank isn't quite that bright. So I put it up high where I planned to keep it. After about a week in my tank, I noticed that it looked like it was rtn'ing on me because the brown was peeling off on the top of the branches. But I held out messing with it, because it still had good polyp extension and all my parameters were in check. It's been about a week and the "peeling" has stopped. The top of the coral looks awesome.. Bright white (not dead) with blueish purple coralites and tips, and a kind of greenish white iridescence. The underside of the branches are still a little brown. There's actually a sharp line from the top half of the branch that's got color to the lower half that's brown.
Is this how a browned out coral goes from being browned out to colorful again? Can it happen that fast? Or did I just get lucky after light shocking a coral?
Thanks!
