Brrrrr it was cold last night

Got home from work today, and my tank felt a bit cold... looked at my thermometer which showed 22.5 celcius.. which translates to 72.5F.... surprised nothing was dying on me or anything... both heaters seem to be working,b ut I guess 450watts is insufficient for 120ish gallons of water. Need to really rethink how I heat my tanks now.

Wow. The difference between San Jose and SF. My heater barely needs to be there... I need to leave the fans running at night to keep it under 80.

I've had tanks go a bit lower (down to 68.5) and it was fine.

I connected another heater to bring the temp back up to 76 in my smaller tank. I think they can go through cooler temps for a little bit without much trouble.

i have a bunch of rocks in a bin in the garage with some hermits and snails and they all did well when the water temp went down into the 60's.

my water's been dipping to 73 degrees the last few days... too much summer prep and not enough chilly bay area nights prep =P

But amazingly, my corals are growing much more with the cooler temps? Ever since I added in an extra fan and kept my temp about 76 degrees, my corals have noticably increased growth rates... all of them. in fact without furan-2 treatments, my zoapox'd zoos seem to pull thorugh on their own.

Arnold: That's because your tank is right inside your living room, so whatever you keep that at will be your tank temp + heat from your lighting :) Mine has an outdoor component, one which I am seriously rethinking since the money I save on electricity lighting a frag tank or what not might end up cost me with heating.

Art: I don't know why but I got this feeling the corals look more vibrant as well, unsure if this is delusional though.

do you think it has to do with oxygen levels being affected by water temp?

or maybe some other "level". interesting =)

So true SF just gets plain cold.

Typical mornings are in the low 50's. We're lucky when it warms to about 56 :D

As I understood, many of our corals tend to be from cooler waters that around the mid to low 70's
