just wondering if I have to clean, or do anything special before adding some dry Fiji live rock I purchased from brs. my tank is established and stocked, and don't want to cause any harm to it. what is everyone's opinion? I have never purchased dry rock before! I don't know what steps need to be done prior to adding it to my reef tank . thanks everyone in advance

Really great question. I'm interested to hear what others have done.

I added 1 piece directly to my 180G system after rinsing it with RO water. BRS does recommend curing it. If I were going to add more, or if I had a smaller volume of water, I would have cured it in RO for a few weeks.

added a bunch to my 75 without curing, phosphates went nuts and i had very cloudy water and had to scrape the glass of film algae three times a day. once i got some GFO running with some water changes it cleared up in about two weeks.

cycle in a bin and use lanthanum chloride (do a search on RC for this) to reduce phosphate. alternative is to give a bath with hydrochloric acid that should also do it. I would NOT recommend putting it right into your tank.

nice stuff, just needs to be treated before using :)
