BRS Dual (Chaeto) Reactor

I just received some Chaeto and decided to try to grow it in my BRS Dual Reactor. The water is pumped into the reactor and the output goes into my TLF PhosBan reactor that has GFO in it. The BRS reactor is lit by a 60 watt compact fluorescent bulb. I am curious to see if this setup will work or not.

I think its novel idea, but using a little GFO would obviously have greater results unless this is for a 10g display tank .

If one were to say have a clear 5g chaeto reactor, one might be on to something better.

Not sure, there is a company making these and they have had great success with them. Theirs are a little bigger of course but not near a 5 gallon bucket size. They offer the option of going skimmer less due to the effieiciency of them. Not sure as I haven't used one, but there are 2 guys on here that are having great success with them. Do a search on ARID or Pax bellum I think. You might be a bit surprised.

I'm not seeing how you can go without a skimmer using cheato. Two different things they remove

I was just repeating what I read in their threads. That would better be suited for one of them maybe. But I think this is another form of ATS and it removes nitrates and P04, both of which a skimmer helps remove.

IIRC skimmers remove the amino acids/proteins, not the nitrates and p04 (which feed cheato), which is typically why folks with an ATS will still have a skimmer...I think Floyd even mentions in his ATS thread that they do not replace skimmers.

What your not a chemist?!?!?
Yeah me neither!!!!

Yeah I don't know how they work but it seems they do, at least for some. They ain't cheap tho!! But not much in this hobby is so that isn't a surprise

My version. I added very little chaeto to start and they're doing really well with noticeable growth in 3 days. It's just a test run so far.

This definitely gets an A+ for creativity. I'm skeptical on if it can have any meaningful results with the size limitations, however.

Keep us updated!

how is it there are size limitations to chaeto (honestly curious)? I have been running some on my 7 gallon pico in an aquaclear 20 converted into a fuge and have crazy growth out of the chaeto and have almost no algea growth due to flatlined phosphates. this happened within 48 hours of starting to have chaeto in my tank, tank is now almost 3 months old, no more blooms and very stable.
