I have a different experience. The hi-cap takes half the volume and consistently tumbles better, produces less dust/fines, and for me just works better. I will keep buying it.
Not true. That's just an opinion. The HC lasts longer. If that's not worth it to you then I can see your point. I like the time savings of fewer change outs.
When comparing the same volume of HC to Regular, you'll see weight of the HC is significantly higher and is commensurate with the higher cost of the Regular IME. The difference is density.
Another small benefit is that it's a little bit cleaner with fewer fines. It might also be just a little more resistant to channeling inside a reactor, but I'm not 100% sure on that.
After running the regular stuff for a few years, I can tell HC lasts longer just by how often I need to clean the brown dust off the glass. If the world's GFO oligopoly is running a scam on gullible reefers, water treatment plant operators, aquaculture facilities and the like, I'd be quite surprised. Any college chemistry major could easily construct a definitive lab test and tell for sure. Could you imagine that class action lawsuit if HCGFO was BS? Lawyers would be dancing in the steets hugging & giving one another high fives, hooting like drunken frat girls at Senor Frogs on Spring break.
