Brute cans smell

I did a full battery of tests in addition to the po4 (red sea), it all showed normal. All I got to do it leave the lid off for a bit, and it goes away.

I checked new RO/DI into a pitcher, so it is not the RO/DI water itself, it seems to be the captive aspect.

Mine smells as well. Only had it two months or so.... made me nervous for a bit. Ive gotten used to it after I tested it a few times.. I have only used it for straight ro/di water as of yet.

Im not to worried about it anymore. I don't see any negative affects and I stay persistent in cleaning them with a vinegar bath.

I have had the smell also with RO?DI water only, I thought it had to do with DI. I wouldn't get the smell with RO water

I get it with ro/di. All three of my cans eventually smell like cat urine/ammonia

I'm in FL and my cans smell too! I keep a can full of RODI on my covered lanai and it smells bad and gets on my hands. Can't stand it.

It's bacteria, wouldn't worry about it for the tank.

I hace noticed the same thing.plain water, brute can was used to mix salt previously. Used for top off water now rodi. Smells like cat pee
