Bryan's 50 Gallon Cube

SO it is out that I am working on my new system, a nearly complete DIY 50 gallon cube. Dimensions will be 24x24x20, external overflow, rimless, canopy will hover above the glass by about 12 inches. Light will be a single 175 watt 15K iwasaki and 2 t-5 actinics.

Tank will be made out of 3/8" glass, you can see the tank against the wall in one of the pictures.

Sump will be a converted 20 gallon.

DIY autotop off, AC3 for all the necessary controlling, etc.

Enough with the talk...

Stand in late framing, I think I have earlier pics, somewhere...

Stand is framed in pine and covered in Oak. The stand is designed to hold water 3.5 inches deep, just in case of a problem. There are Oak Doors that need sanding and stain still (thanks Russ and Sue).

Hopefully Glass will get siliconed together next weekend.

That's it for now

great start Bryan
i like the idea you have for trapping water in the stand, but how do you plan on making it water tight?i suppose you could just run silicone around the base seams.

Exactly, I silicone the seams, then put 2 coats of exterior paint on top. On the 120 stand it has proven a savior on many occasions!

Looks really good Bryan. I have a galvanized pan under my stand, had my euro reef overflow the side of the sump once and it kept water off the floor:) Keep the pics coming looks like a nice build!

i see you are going external overflow, did you have the glass cut at the top for you overflow already?

Awesome start!!!! You guys are so high-tech - I just have towels stuffed everywhere in case of spills. LOL

For the glass I am using GE RVT103

For sealing in the stand I am using a Dap Product that you can pain that did ot have an anti-mildew product in it.

im using an elastomeric paint inside the bottom and up the sides about 6 in. to handle any water disasters on my 210 stand.have any of you ever used this stuff? Nice cabinetry by the way. the stand i just built for my shallow tank is a joke.

Bryan,

Looking good! That stand and canopy are awesome. How are you making your DIY top off?

Keep it up.

Cheers,
Chris

I have not touched it at all. We had a guest this weekend, and I got my Scuba Open Water Cert, so I was busy with other things... soon
