Bryopsis, the algae from *(BEEP)*

Add a fuge, and put it on a reverse photoperiod... The algae in the fuge will suck any extra nutrients, I have ALSO noticed that my sps will absorb nutrients also...

I just had a little bryopsis breakout because of a fish death, and it is now gone... I think my foxface ate it, and I have 25 little astrea snails that are still going strong after 8 mos, along with all types of other little critters...

I beat bryopsis by being patient and waiting. Reduced feedings, manual removal, higher pH, lots of water changes. It faded and faded and became increasingly weak. Lettuce nudibranchs would eat the top leafy part off, but leave the stalk.

It finally stopped growing months ago, and would easily come off the rocks once i pulled it, but it was in spaces i could never reach. One day I got a doliatus/virgatus rabbitfish, and he ate what remained ( a long with teaching my purple tang to eat it).

No more left in the tank.
I did the same thing as King-Kong but never had 100% success. I pruned, changed water, added phosban, etc... etc... I even used the lettuce nudi's like others are referring to. They did eat some but nothing significant IMO. It is a hard fight anyway you look at it. Try the seahare, you can probably find one locally for $15. GL

Do any of the herbivore blenny's eat the stuff?

Also, I thought that Bryopsis was the green, small fern-like-leaved vine that attaches to live rock. Sort of little feathery leaves connected to a very well anchored thin vine that breaks off if you try to peal it off the rock. Not brown at all...do I have this wrong?

that sounds like calurpa to me.I think the alge they are talking about is bush like.

Please forgive my ignorance. The ID came from a LFS and I have never been able to confirm it. I indeed may have this one wrong. I do know what Feather Caulerpa looks like, and that is not what I have. Melev's ID site has the closest match labled as Bryopsis the only difference is that mine is ever so slightly more "bushy" or feathery looking.

Sorry to confuse/hyjack the thread but I have always had to manually remove the stuff every three months from one corner of my tank. I would like to find a small fish that eats it and will not harm my SPS's.

a good tool to remove this stuff is a eyelash straightner(I think that is what it is called) It makes it a little easier to pull this stuff out you just have to bend it a little to get a better bite. This stuff is a pain, I have had it come and go in my tank for years now. Seems to disapear for 6 months or so and then start to show up again.
