pretty sure this is bryopsis but wanted to confirm. i tried to get the best picture i could. any guess as to why it's growing on one side of the tank and the other side doesn't even have a trace of it?

the first picture is the side with no algae. second and third are the algae.

it's hard to see in the pics since the algae is not in focus. a close up pic of the algae would be better to id. bryopsis is fern like algae with branches off the stem. did you use dry rocks or liverocks? maybe it came in with the liverocks or frags that you happen to put in one side of the tank.

I used dry rock and seeded with live sand a put a piece of live rock in my refugium. Both live rock and live sand were from a friend with stable tank - no algae on the rock.

Is this picture any better? I'm having a hard time getting a good one. Would turning the lights off for a few days help rid it?

check out this thread ^^ and see if you have similar looking algae. you can see the fern looking algae in the first two pics. if your algae doesn't look like them, then it's probably just green hair algae.

but if you have bryopsis, you can kill it by removing the algae manually and raising the Mg to 1700 ppm using Kent's Tech M.(do not raise the Mg by more than 100ppm/day)

if what you have is green hair algae, you can control it by doing manual removal, algae scrubber, gfo, wet skimming, water changes, carbon dosing, etc.
