Bryosis problem

Help me for a game plan. Nitrates are 5-10. Bulbs are pretty new. I'm trying the Magneseum trick with Tech M. It is turning yellow and easy to pull off, but still growing. The Magneseum by my calculations is over 1800, test kit doesn't go up high enough. It has been at that level for a few days. I have tangs, hermits and Emerald crabs. I tried to put in a Sea Hare, but he didn't make it. I don't want to try Nuddibranches because I just have too much flow for them. The Bryosis is on the overflow and one large rock. Any other ideas before I take down the tank?

Alot don't like em but, algae scrubbers are great for reducing nitrates and phosphates. Plus they are also great for removing algae from your DT. Since I have constructed one in my sump, Not a spot of algae in the tank, still have to clean glass now and again but, nothing on the rocks. I don't know how that will work with what you got going on but, all algaes need nutrients, with the scrubber you may be able to starve them out.

This seems like an interesting project. How often do you end up cleaning it? Is egg crate okay to use?

what was your mag level before adding tech M? it's not the amount of mag but the percentage that does the trick. I went from 1100 to 1320 and mine melted away within a week.

I had a very tough strain of bryopsis that high magnesium levels (2000) did nothing, I resorted to pulling out as much LR I could at a time and pouring Kent Tech M directly over it, left it for 10 minutes then rinsed in fresh salt water and put back in the tank. That was 2 months ago and so far so good. Make sure you dont spread it while manually removing it.

Ive used tech m on both of my tanks....never measured just dosed and within a few weeks it melted away and my cuc removed the residual stuff. I know its risky and probably should have monitored my mag levels, but I didnt have any real livestock yet so I went to town with it.:spin2:

I used it and it seemed to have cleared up my problem, but it did melt away my green star polyps (no major loss).
