BTA committed Suicide

Had a neon green BTA, things were fine it would open during the close at nite, it was nice. came home from work yesterday to find the tank water cloudy and noticed something wrapped around the intake of my maxi jet power head, it was my BTA. any ideas on how this could have happened? was the BTA moving around and got to close?

Yes. It got too close. You should read up on these things beforehand because we get a case like this every day or so.

What kind of material do you cover powerheads with when you have an anemone?

Sorry this happened. Sometimes they can recover from this, sometimes not. The link above also gives info on getting the nem out of the powerhead.

These guys are notorious for finding intakes to get sucked into. Not sure if they just like to live dangerously or what. They do wander when they don't like the spot they're in, to find a better one. They can travel over and around rocks or go vertical on the glass.

The link has a lot of good info, definately worth the read.

Good luck

I lost my Juvinille cownfish in a powerhead, it got sucke up while it was sleeping. I wish I had read this thread yesterday:(. Great website though, I got a lot of great ideas

I hate to tell you, but it was assisted suicide (you). Cover your pumps as mentioned.

As well, honestly, no healthy fish of 3/4-1" or so should ever get caught in a pump. Grated, if you're running a Tunze 6100 in a QT tank, it might be another story.

Karen's site has quite a good bit of information. It is well worth the time reading.
