BTA for sale.

I have a faux red bta that doesn't move. I would trade it for your bta.
It isn't hosting any clowns right now so If you ant to trad that would be cool. Totally up to you. But I will buy the BTA from you for $25.00.

before i agree, i need to know what kind of lights you have. these guys require MH lights. they hang out at the top of my tank directly under a 250w 10k. i dont want to seem weird im just looking out for the health of the nem.

Do you have a picture? I have 2 x 400W MH's on my 90 gallon, but I already have 3 anemones, 1 of which is a huge bta. How large is your bta?

My T5 set up has been keeping my anemones very happy too. So don't be afraid to pass it on to someone with a decent T5 set up.

I too have had a BTA live and reproduce several annoying times in my PC-lit tank. Depending on flow, he always tries to be in optimum flow and reach up as high as it can for light.

I don't know if reducing the light input would really hurt it overall but the BTA may loose some of it's green color. If the thing didn't move around so much (1. you wouldn't be getting rid of it probably) you could move it down somewhat to acustom it to lower lighting. Yeah - but what a chore. Good luck Josh.

the bta is about 2-3" at the foot and 7-8 when open

its identical to this one. this is the one im keeping.

a good set of t5's would do it too but i personaly wouldnt chance it with pc's

I kept them under PC's for a very long time. Nova69 has one of my clones and his has split several times as well.
One thing I did notice on kinghokus's tank, there doesn't look like there's any ideal spot for the bta to settle. They like to wedge that foot down between the rocks where it's protected, so when they withdrawl they are completely hidden.

Actually being a clone I am suprised it didn't either butt right up to the original, or move to the well lit area on the other side of the same rock.
And for what it's worth my anemone has never wedged itself in, it is on a fairly flat surface of a bridge in my tank attatched on the underneath and stretching out, and was there for about a year, it has split there three times and each time the clone has stayed right next to it. I just got rid of two of the anemones to my nieghbor, the other moved over and spread wide open nice and happy still. but this one is a bit wedged.

the one in the pic is attached to the underside of the rock and it does retract at night. the one FS was right next to it for a week or 2 then decided to go on a walkabout again. i have it in a big open net near the surface now so its ready to go.

I had 4 clones in the same hole, everytime they would split one or two would start moving around the aquarium and usually end up back where they started (or in a power head).

Yes. I too find when my anemone(s) have found a happy place they tend to move their foot down into a place the can safely retract into (i.e. underside of the rock). Just my two cents as well.

Josh,

I have two anemones in my tanks, one is a bubble that is in the all fish tank with absolutely no special lighting besides an extra reef bulb. This anemone has found the lowest spot in the tank and is hosting a tomato clown.

The other one is a faux rose anemone that found its spot immediately after coming out of the bag and we have a pc and another bulb.

They are both doing great and I feed them shrimp occassionally. I would really like to have another one but I certainly have no desire to kill one. Let me know if you guys think that it would survive in my tank.

Also, if it looked like it was getting sick or dying I would either give it back or hand it off to someone else who would be willing to take it.

Melissa,

Not necessarily. Once an anemone has its foot somewhere and locked on, any aggrivation to remove it, especially if successful, often can result in the decay and subsequent death of the anemone. Thats why you'll find them at LFS in tanks with no rocks and acrylic or glass sides. Much safer to scrape off. Anthony Calfo when recommended local farming of anemones - he suggested lining the tank vessle with artifical turf.

Well duh!! I should have thought about that before making that statement about giving it back. Oh well no new anemone for me.
